Learning Together

Christian, Cooperative, Character-Building

At Oikia Learning Center, children feel they have come home to the house of their heavenly father. We lead students to wait upon God and invite His presence to join us. The children are trained in the sounds of American English and fluent reading through our faith-integrated curriculum. In addition to improving their English skills, the kids immerse themselves in what is true, good, and beautiful.

In Taiwan, Christianity is less than 5% of the population. Many families desperately need to hear the good news of the Gospel.

About 70% of Taiwanese children attend after-school classes. About 50% of these children say that they go to after-school classes to learn English. Yet a third of them express feeling unhappy at these centers for reasons such as excessive work, tests, bullying, or harsh teaching styles(Children Welfare League Foundation,2009). Yet English has never been more important. Within ten years, English will likely be a medium of instruction in higher education, pushing more families to seek extra help.

Oikia was founded with a dual vision: To practically help Taiwanese children master English and to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We are here to help courageous leaders who will teach English for God.

Our Story

Soon, our dream became a reality. The first Oikia Learning Center - hosted by a local church in Linkou - was born. Our teachers, who were full of purposeful energy, tirelessly served school aged children using picture books and Bible stories during the afterschool hours.

Today, we have our own faith-integrated English language curriculum for local G3-8 students. We insist on providing the best learning experience, which includes a caring and supportive atmosphere, well-lit and accessible meeting place, and above all, excellent teaching approach that is conducive to students' learning.

Oikia is English for the Greek word "house". In our heavenly father's house there are many rooms, uniquely prepared for each special child. In the same ethos, we hope to see children enjoy learning English and grow to become skilled apprentices of men and faithful disciples of Christ.

But we have this treasure in jars of clay

to show that this all-surpassing power

is from God and not from us.

2 Corinthians 4:7
